Join Troy and Darin on a spirited drive to the Wehrloom Honey Taproom in Robbinsville where we will enjoy a special half-price tasting of five varieties of honey mead (alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey). In addition to mead for sale, the shop also has honey, candles, lotions, soaps and lip balm made from their local Smoky Mountain honey. The owners will also be on-hand to provide a tour of their local honeybee operation.
Getting to Wehrloom will also be part of our adventure. We will depart Fontana at 9AM after a brief driver’s meeting from the upper parking lot of the General Store (line up facing uphill.) We will be taking 1246 west towards Tapoco Road. Once we reach Lake Santeetlah, we will head counter-clockwise around the lake. Our trip will include a detour up the “Chasing the Dragon” Hillclimb in the Joyce Kilmer Forest to the Maple Springs Observation Deck. After a short visit and photo op, we will return back down the mountain and around the lake to our destination.
After our tasting and tour at Wehrloom, the owners have arranged for a food truck on-site. The menu will include items such as fish tacos, pulled pork and burgers with fresh cut fries. Our adventure will end at Wehrloom. Feel free to stay and shop in Robbinsville (to include gas and groceries) or head back. Drive time back to Fontana Village at a moderate pace is 35 minutes.
